There are no more emergency calls for public donations, no more Live Aids for Ethiopia, no more TV ads telling us of the unimaginable suffering of children starving in Africa. Where have the famines gone?<br /><br />The Old Testament story of Joseph tells of how he persuaded the Pharaoh of Egypt to store enough grain over the seven good years to tide the people over when the seemingly-inevitable seven bad years arrived.
